28 June—The Litchfield Monitor doesn’t as a rule prognosticate. But in exceptional circumstances we can’t contain our prognosticatory urge. So we predict that Donald Trump will nominate Kenneth Chesebro to be a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. district courts in the states of Connecticut, New York, and Vermont.
Kenneth Who? And why, you wonder, should another Trump nomination be worthy of Monitor prognostication? To cut to the chase, then, Kenneth Chesebro is not only a Trump loyalist-flunkie shyster, but he has just—as of Thursday—been disbarred in New York State. For the record, Chesebro’s law licenses in New York and Florida had been suspended earlier, his license in Illinois is inactive, he’s not permitted to practice in California and Massachusetts, and he’s facing criminal charges in Wisconsin.
Okay, Kenneth Chesebro’s disreputable curriculum vitae may not be all that impressive for a Trump appointee or nominee, but you may recall that he, like so many crooks a Harvard lawyer, was one of the 18 defendants in the 2023 Georgia election racketeering prosecution, in which he pleaded guilty (and then unsuccessfully tried to invalidate the plea) to a single felony count (of seven initial counts) of conspiracy to commit filing false documents in the comic-novel plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
According to the congressional committee that investigated the typically Trumpian criminal farce, Kenneth Chesebro is popularly known as the architect of the Trump fake electors plot because he wrote the legal memos in an effort to convince Republican-controlled state legislatures to name Trump-friendly fraudsters in the bizarre conspiracy to certify slates of fake electors for Donald Trump in seven states that Joe Biden had legitimately won in 2020.
Given Donald Trump’s notorious propensity for giving important federal government jobs to unqualified and should-be-disqualified loyalists and ass-kissers and the shamefully complaisant U.S. Senate Republican majority’s notorious propensity for doing their master’s bidding, why wouldn’t Kenneth Chesebro become a federal appellate judge?
And let’s not forget about poor Rudolph Giuliani, also disgraced and disbarred for his criminal efforts on behalf of Donald Trump—and more . . .
