26 January—The good news is that Ned Lamont, currently His Majesty King Ned I, will be not be asking his Democrat barons to extend his reign. At least for the time being. He won’t be abdicating or renouncing, to be sure. But it’s a step in the right direction.
So it’ll just be plain old His Excellency Governor Ned Lamont when King Ned’s reign expires next month. And we have to thank election year for that. Absolute monarchs—autocratic kings—ordinarily don’t do too well in American elections.
The bad news is that the irresponsible Democrat majorities in both houses of the Connecticut General Assembly will still be screwing up the works as they’ve been doing for far too long. And, much as I may have reveled in criticizing Ned Lamont, he has shown himself to be far more responsible and reasonable than most of his fellow Democrats in Hartford—not to mention his predecessor, dastardly Dannel Malloy.
Election year will probably temper the unrealistic aspirations and curb the obnoxious legislative plans of the Democrats, but just wait until 2023 for the deluge of counterproductive crap. That’s why Connecticut needs a Republican majority in at least one of the houses and/or a Republican governor.
Right now, as a tripartite minority party in Connecticut, Republicans can say anything. They can criticize, suggest, promise, and posture till they’re blue in the face. But only if the voters do the right thing will the Republicans have the opportunity to actually prove they can do a better job than the Democrats. If indeed they can.
So much for Connecticut. Other good news is that Vice President Kamala Harris will be headed down to Tegucigalpa for the inauguration of Honduras’s new president. If it ever takes place, of course; the way things are going down there, you never know.
Snobs that we are, the United States doesn’t customarily send our president or even our vice president to little countries like Honduras for inaugurations. But Xiomara Castro is a democratic socialist woman of color. So it’s surprising that Joe Biden isn’t flying down along with Kamala. In all events, it’ll be positively uplifting for America to have Kamala Harris out of the country.
The bad news is that Kamala Harris most likely will be coming back before too long . . .
