Clever Democrats?

11 April—Credit where credit is due. You’ve got to give it to the Democrats in Washington for a brilliant, ever so subtle strategy to preserve their majority in the upcoming midterm congressional election.

It’s well known that Donald Trump owns a clear majority of the current gutless Republican minority in the Capitol as well as far too many guileless Republican voters. But the former con man-in-chief (because they’re really all con men—and women, of course) doesn’t own more thoughtful, less impressionable Republicans and conservatives.

It’s predicted by pundits, pollsters, and prophets that the Republicans will reclaim their majorities in both the Senate and House of Representatives in November. Not because the Republicans deserve it, to be sure, but because the Democrats have really screwed up royally. And that’s what often happens in midterm elections anyway.

One of the ways the Democrats have screwed up is by pussyfooting through the hearings on the felonious behavior of Donald Trump, mostly related to the 6 January Capitol kerfuffle. The Democrats started the investigations and hearings and publicity as soon as they got their majority. And they’re still investigating and hearing and publicizing after well over a year. And it doesn’t look like they’ll be finished by the time the Republicans are due to regain their power.

Unhappily, it’s a given that a gutless Republican majority—remember it’s owned by Trump—will drop anything and everything that could possibly embarrass, let alone convict, their lord and master.

Procrastination is the Democrats’ brilliant strategy for preserving their majority for at least another two years. Their strategists reckon that there are enough intelligent Republicans, among other ordinarily conservative voters, who want to see Donald Trump sent up the river. Perhaps at any cost.

So to facilitate (if not ensure) that blessed event, to keep the GOP from snatching criminal Trump from the jaws of the law, those voters could be motivated to hold their noses and vote for Democrats just this once. That would give the Democrats enough time—another two-year term—to finally get all the goods on the bastard. Hopefully. If they can get their act together.

Thus, there’s a method to the Democrats’ ponderous posturing and they’re not really as stupid and disorganized as they’re acting. Or are they?
