Willful, senile, innocent Joe

9 February—So according to special counsel Robert Hur, Joe Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” including but not limited to “handwritten entries about issues of national security and foreign policy implicating sensitive intelligence sources and methods.”

But Hur doesn’t want to prosecute Joe despite his having willfully broken the law because he’s a sorry senile old fart with a lousy memory who can’t read his own handwriting and, by implication, didn’t know what he was doing even when he was several years younger.

Keeping Donald Trump’s arrogantly willful criminal classified-material retention out of the equation, then, why let Biden off the hook? Well, “willful” is the pregnant word; and presumably lawyer Hur and/or whoever wrote the 388-page report knew precisely what it means.

Here are some one-word synonyms for willful: deliberate, intentional, premeditated, planned, calculated, purposeful, conscious, voluntary.

So Biden knew precisely what he was doing when he “mishandled” the sensitive and otherwise classified documents, including his own illegibly scribbled notes, possibly endangering national security and who knows what else. That’s made pretty clear in the report. And Biden admitted as much without admitting guilt.

And yet doddering old Joe is being allowed to get away with it because the special counsel thinks or feels he wouldn’t be able to get a conviction based on what boils down to Biden’s age-related mental incapacity.

That’s offensive to old farts, to say the least. Joe Biden most certainly has lots and lots of faults. But most have nothing at all to do with his age. Consider that Joe Biden is 81, 30 years older than Robert Hur; and Hur is a year younger than ageist Republican POTUS wannabe Nikki Haley.

Like Haley, Hur is a Republican and was given a noteworthy federal job by Donald Trump. That’s precisely why he was strategically assigned to run the Biden investigation by Democrat Attorney General Merrick Garland (in the interest of appearing to be nonpartisan, of course). But, unlike Haley, can Hur still be loyal to Trump? In any way?

One would expect an intelligent young man like Robert Hur to have more sense than to do anything at all to further the interests of Donald Trump. But consider that while he dismisses prosecution of Joe Biden, he does so on grounds of senility and mental incompetence. So he’s not really doing Biden any favors.

Quite the contrary, in fact. Were Biden to be indicted and tried, he might just be able to rouse his lethargic base quite as accused criminal Trump has succeeded in doing with his MAGA morons.

And don’t forget that Trump is only a few years younger than Biden, morbidly obese, precociously senile, and as willful as Adolf Hitler . . .
