13 October—So the jury in Waterbury has determined that the scumbag Alex Jones and his irresponsible rabble-rousing corporate-veil platform Free Speech Systems LLC owe the Newtown massacre litigants $965 million in compensatory damages plus lawyer fees. Since the jury took three three days to come up with that figure—actually a separate award for each of the 15 litigants—I hadn’t been expecting the figure to be that high. Neither had Jones’s reluctant lawyer, whose fees alone must be well into six figures. And the judge may decide to add punitive damages. She should, if only on principle.
Then there’s the near-$50 million the big-mouth moron has been ordered to pay in Texas, though that’s certain to be drastically reduced thanks to Texas law. In Connecticut alone, then, Asshole Jones is facing about a billion. But he and his LLC and whatever other tax-sheltering and money-laundering entities he may be using, wherever they may be located, will never pay anything like that. Count on it.
The phony judgement-avoidance bankruptcy isn’t going to help Jones to any great extent. Rather, the promise of a lengthy appeals process will motivate the Newtown plaintiffs (and their lawyers, of course) to settle for considerably less than the $965 million. A bird in hand, as they say. It’s entirely possible the Connecticut judicial system could expedite the appeals, but even so there’s no way the scumbag is going to pay anything like a billion.
I’d like to be wrong, of course. That prick deserves to pay for the rest of his low life and be denied all life’s comforts while paying. And afterward. And not just for his defamation of the Newtown massacre, its victims, their survivors, the investigators, as well as the entirely foreseeable, depraved aftermath he fomented.
Among the things I find particularly galling about Scuzzbucket Jones is that he had the nerve to cop the First Amendment to justify the obviously bogus Newtown scenario he fabricated for the sake of profit.
Who but a sick nitwit could even have thought the massacre had been staged to push an anti-gun agenda? (The anti-gun lobby certainly used it to advantage, but that’s another story.) Mind you, Alex Jones wasn’t the only sick nitwit, but he had the soapbox to incite other sick nitwits. And then he insisted the First Amendment gave him the right to lie. What the moron didn’t—and still doesn’t—admit in public is that the First Amendment—free speech—ends where defamation begins.
But Jones made everything right by pretending to apologize . . .
