2 August—The Monitor’s 31 July disquisition “Joe on the feather” contained this unusually uncritical comment on the dear old president:
“Suffice to say, then, the unanimous view of The Monitor’s editorial bored is that Joe Biden is a nice guy and doting father who may have looked the other way when his younger, profligate asshole of a son did the dirty but isn’t himself any more a criminal than other politicians.”
Well, it seems that wasn’t good enough for El Liberalissimo. So he riposted:
“Not sufficient and mostly irrelevant. Joe Biden is also a leader with decades of involvement with world events and with those who shape(d) them, and he is, I suspect, served by a similarly experienced set of advisors and staff. Having followed his career for some years, I’ve come to trust his judgements and am in sympathy with his positions on most issues that I’ve followed. I especially like his leadership on issues related to labor, the environment and world affairs. Whatever went on with his son seems to have nothing to do with the values or behavior of the father. I’m proud of my children but would not like to be judged by all they may have done. This is especially true considering Biden’s family has suffered more than its share of tragedies and traumas.”
Abject apologies to El. Not. At the risk of sounding like Donald Trump who was full of it (as usual) at the National Association of Black Journalists convention the other day, a guy tries to be nice and this is what he gets for it? Okay, the mostly irrelevant part is understandable—and undeniably true. But not sufficient?
Is this sufficient, then? Since Joe Biden purports to be a practicing Catholic (in spite of his positively, unquestionably laudable stands on abortion and other things abhorrent to his chosen church), let’s make him a living saint. By man-made church rules, of course, you’re supposed to be dead before you can become a saint.
But the rules can be changed. Kind of like amending the Constitution when, for instance, an arrogant, self-serving, possibly corrupt supreme court oversteps its remit and the privileges of a president need to be curtailed and defined.
One can certainly question Senator and President Joe Biden’s judgement and leadership on anything. But why bother? Let him retire in health, happiness, and the peace that he so richly deserves.
Most important, El Liberalissimo spells “judgement” properly, rather than the abominable truncated way preferred by American authorities that forgoes the first “e.” Fie on “judgment”!
