14 June—Today is Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of a (or the) national flag on this date in 1777. It’s also Donald Trump’s 77th birthday (no happy returns to him) as well as the anniversary of my marriage in 1977. So what, you’re thinking. Not so fast. Because 77 is obviously a special number.
For starters, it’s the smallest positive integer requiring five syllables to pronounce in proper English. Big thrill. Among other less abstruse but equally thrilling facts about 77, it’s the sum of three consecutive squares, 4 (16)+5 (25)+6 36)(=77) and it’s the sum of the first eight prime numbers, 2+3+5+7+11+13+17+19=77. Wow!
As if that’s not enough, 77 is the atomic number of iridium (Ir).
The Gospel of Luke tells us there are 77 generations from Adam to Jesus. In the Gospel of Matthew, Peter asks, “How many times shall I forgive my brother?” Jesus replies, “Seventy-seven times.”
In simple numerology, where C=3, H=8, R=18, I=9, S=19, T=20, CHRIST=77. And so on. And 77-year-old contemporaries of wrinkly old Trump may remember “77 Sunset Strip” on TV in the late fifties and early sixties.
Yesterday, according to today’s vainglorious bottle-blonde birthday scumbag, “we witnessed the most evil and heinous abuse of power in the history of this country.” So today, to observe his birthday, here’s a graphic record of the most evil, heinous, shameful abuse and desecration of the American flag:
