Trump votes by mail again and again

25 March—First, yesterday’s disquisition evinced positive response from several readers, including, of course, El Liberalissimo and, unexpectedly, El Conservatissimo. El C, it appears, has joined the stampede of former Trump admirers, defenders, and apologists who have finally seen and smelled the shit in the cesspool that is Trump and his corrupt and incompetent administration. We welcome El C to the right side of the right and can assure him that now he’s more likely to be admitted to heaven.

Second, I’m profoundly flattered that some readers thought I was the author of the brilliant essay signed by Gman in yesterday’s disquisition. But I wasn’t; and as far as I know, it’s really, truly, and actually the work of an—or the—perceptive Australian observer who posted it on Facebook.

Third, since he lost the 2020 election and blamed it partly on postal ballots, Donald Trump has made an incessant point of bitching about mail-in-voting: “Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating. I call it mail-in cheating, and we got to do something about it all.” Yet he regularly votes by mail. Evidently mail-in ballots are cheating only when they’re not in his favor.

And Trump voted by mail in yesterday’s special election in Palm Beach County—of which he’s been a resident since doing New York City a favor by giving up his Gotham residency in 2019—which flipped a traditionally Republican Florida House of Representatives seat—intended to be even more safely Republican with a 2022 gerrymander—to a Democrat.

What makes the Florida Democrat victory even sweeter is that Trump had endorsed the Republican candidate, who, he claimed, was backed “by so many of my Palm Beach County friends.” And the Republican probably was, but Trump has lost and is losing so many of his friends all over the country that it really didn’t matter.

That’s not the first good election news during Trump’s current reign of terror, to be sure, and it doesn’t look like it will be the last. But we shouldn’t be sanguine about getting rid of Trump and his flunkies—especially now that even his Palm Beach County friends haven’t come through for him and he and his flunkies have shown themselves to be even dirtier fighters than the Democrats. And that’s saying a lot . . .
