Trump must still be laughing

26 April—Evidently the news that Donald Trump has been held in contempt of court isn’t the sort of news the Republican-American considered important enough to print this morning. I guess it’s not newsworthy that Donald Trump is the first ex-president to be held in contempt of court, even if it’s only civil contempt.

True, Trump’s contempt citation wasn’t unexpected and has in fact been eagerly awaited by good people everywhere for close to a half-century. And it’s understood that America’s favorite Drecksack Führer holds the New York Supreme Court in greater contempt than it holds him.

In fact, it’s understood that Donald Trump holds all courts, legislatures, corporations, and people—every conceivable entity—in profound and utter contempt unless they kiss his fat, corrupt ass. Unfortunately, that’s precisely what far too many of them do. That can give anyone a god complex, especially a born narcissist.

Donald Trump should have been sentenced to life without parole decades ago. But as a brilliant con man he’s been able to get away with virtually everything that would get less brilliant charlatans locked up.

Of course, that makes Donald Trump a brilliant politician. Trump sought and used the presidency for his own gain. But don’t most politicians use their position and power for their own gain? Perhaps most political hacks aren’t as flagrant and shameless as Trump, but, all things considered, they’re ultimately in it for themselves.

Even far too many if not most of the pols who start out with all the noblest, most altruistic intentions, often end up representing themselves first and foremost. Power corrupts, as Lord Acton observed. And it certainly would be refreshing to see most politicians where they belong—behind bars. Or at least out of office.

Donald Trump has often boasted that he pays no taxes and that people who do are stupid. If he avoids taxes legally (rather than evading taxes illegally) and they don’t, he has a point. But what are the chances Trump does anything legally?

Apropos Trump’s taxes, one of the New York prosecutors commented yesterday that Trump didn’t like to pay taxes. So? What’s wrong with that? Who does like to pay taxes, schmuck? Even my saintly father, who always insisted that he was grateful to be able to pay whatever income tax his accountant couldn’t avoid, didn’t like to pay it.

Most of us pay taxes and do or don’t do lots of other things not because we really want to, but simply because we don’t want to get caught and suffer the consequences. Only the beatific utopian socialist minority does those things because they’re right and good. Assuming they are, of course.

One more thing. Even that insufferable asshole Alex Jones was fined $25,000 a day till he appeared for a deposition, which the too-lenient judge gave back to the bugger when he finally did show up. Jones is a mere millionaire, since we can discount his bankruptcy fiddles to avoid paying what he owes the Sandy Hook families for his libelous remarks.

But Donald Trump is said—especially by himself—to be a billionaire. So $10,000 a day? That’s a joke. Chicken feed. What was the contemptuous judge thinking? If Trump is worth, say, only one billion, $10,000 a day would get him through 273 years of civil contempt fines, including Sundays and holidays . . .
