29 March—The organizers of yesterday’s third round of No Kings demonstrations—3,300 rallies, protests, call them what you will, that drew over 8 million participants at home and abroad (where Trump is disdained even more than at home)—consider the well-coordinated event a major success. And in terms of participation—massive turnout—it certainly was impressive, far more so than anything Trump and his malignant MAGA morons have been able to organize. Ever.
In terms of actual political effectiveness, No Kings is questionable. But when considered with the delightfully poor performance of Trump-endorsed candidates in recent elections, Trump’s declining ability to intimidate his once unquestionably obeisant congressional lackeys and bully other countries, and the scumbag-in-chief’s record low approval ratings, yesterday’s No Kings mass mobilization was an undeniably encouraging portent of the eventual fall of America’s first—and one hopes last—tyrant.
Also encouraging is that Trump was too busy cheating at golf yesterday to comment on the No Kings rallies. But you’d better believe they didn’t help his dyspepsia. A White House spokescutie insisted, “We do not think about protests at all” and “the only people who care about protests are reporters who are paid to cover them,” while dismissing them as leftist-funded, largely insignificant, and with little real public support. Why do virtually all Republicans insist on calling liberals leftists?
Trump reminded the press before the mass of rallies, “I am not a king.” And technically he isn’t. Remember when Richard Nixon said, “I am not a crook”? And technically he wasn’t.
Leaving Trump and his flunkies to wallow in their ordure, then, in celebration of World Piano Day here’s Johannes Brahms’s “Academic Festival Overture” played on four pianos by 16 hands. Or is that 16 pianos by four hands?
