Tie the ribbons, kill the borough

14 January—Under the cover of night, against the wishes of the whole country but following the opinion of the complaisant mouthpiece they had hired specifically to justify their ill-conceived, ill-intended, unlawful action, the Borough of Litchfield burgesses and/or their minions stealthily vandalized the yellow ribbons on the Green.

They didn’t even have the courage—let alone the decency—to do the dirty in daylight. That speaks volumes for the lack of character of the burgesses. They certainly are an embarrassment to the borough and town of Litchfield.

The yellow ribbons should be tied around the trees again. In broad daylight, of course. And again and again, as the burgesses’ vandalism dictates. The police, who support the ribbons, may be called in by the burgesses to enforce their unlawful policy. Great press event. And if you’re not a borough resident, just let the burgesses try to fine you.

Consolidation, as I wrote yesterday, is the only way to get rid of the abusive borough. While that process is being executed—just as soon as the town’s leaders pull out their fingers—the only thing borough residents can do to force their democratic will on the autocratic BOLBOWAB is to deny the borough funding at the annual budget meeting in June.

The person who wrote the following sentence for the borough’s poorly managed website clearly had an ironic sense of humor: “The Borough Board and its Historic District Commission work together to preserve the Borough’s charm and history, while promoting a greater sense of community among its residents.” [Bold italics mine]
