Texas in the toilet

21 June—First, the good news. Today is the first day of summer. Astronomical summer, the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Let’s hope this summer isn’t ruined by torrential rains, destructive winds and lightning, and hail. In fact, let’s hope we never again have bad weather. Yeah, right.

Today is also the 234th anniversary of the ratification of the United States Constitution in 1788, when New Hampshire became the ninth of the 13 states to sign on. Before that, the country had been governed by the Articles of Confederation, which established a fairly weak central government, “a firm league of friendship” of states “for their common defense, the security of their liberties and their mutual and general welfare.”

The signing of the Constitution on 17 September 1787 is commemorated on—wait for it—Constitution Day, 17 September.

Now for the morons, imbeciles, and idiots: Texas Republicans on Sunday adopted a resolution that rejected—yes, rejected outright—Joe Biden’s legitimate, verified, three-Trump-justice-SCOTUS-approved win in the 2020 presidential election. It’s unbelievable that the Lone Star State GOP convention formally accepted Donald Trump’s unfounded, paranoid, off-the-wall claims of election fraud. But maybe I’m giving the Texans too much credit.

And the Texas morons, imbeciles, and idiots also adopted a platform that criticized homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice.” Probably some of them were themselves closeted gays but feared for their lives.

Sixty-seven percent of Texas Republicans still believe that Donald Trump won the 2020 election, while only 53 percent of Texans overall believe that Biden won and 36 percent believe he didn’t win legitimately. If Texans have any doubts at this stage—even given media bias—I’d give the doubters 47 percent. Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, save me! Keep in mind, though, that Texas, while not overwhelmingly Republican, is overwhelmingly delusional and impressionable.

That’s good because it will keep former opportunistic Democrat congressman and punk musician Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke from getting elected governor. It’s bad because it will virtually assure that the troglodyte Republican governor Gregory Wayne “Greg” Abbott gets elected governor for his third reactionary term.

Sad to say, good for guns, bad for everything else . . .
