Poor Trump is lower than ever

4 May—According to the latest published polls, conducted at the end of April, Donald Trump’s disapproval rating currently stands at 62 percent, an impressive all-time high in both of his horrific reigns of terror. Trump’s disapproval is based on, among many other things, his notoriously stupid mishandling of the Iran non-war and his stupidly incommodious mishandling of the economy, as well as all the vanity monuments to his ineluctable narcissism. Among many other things. Among many other things.

In fact, Trump’s approval rating for handling the economy is at an all-time career low of only 31 percent, with over two-thirds of respondents evidently realizing that his ill-considered, just plain inept economic policies—as well as all other policies, which naturally affect the economy—have severely worsened economic conditions in the United States.

So while it may be irrelevant to his incumbent dictatorship, public confidence in Trump has declined decidedly and deservedly. And only 44 percent of respondents think he’s “mentally sharp.” That many? Well you may ask. The question, then, is, who the hell approves of this schmuck?

The simple and unsurprising answer is that over 80 percent of people who admit to being Republicans say they approve of Trump’s job performance—if not necessarily of Trump himself. So do about the same percentage of old farts—people over 50, the magic AARP threshold. It’s thus disappointing that only 20 percent of Republicans and old farts have scruples, smarts, or even common sense.

And—surprisingly or not—only about 80 percent of the ultra-rich, who have benefited most from the Trump-GOP tax cuts and other advantageous fiddles at the expense of everybody else, are naturally delighted, positively ecstatic, about his job performance, especially with regard to his strategic mishandling of the economy.

On the other hand, the meager 20 percent of the ultra-rich who disapprove of Trump are those whose less greedy principles extend beyond mere fiscal principal.

On the subject of principles, principals, and fiscal principal, by the way, voters and taxpayers in Goshen, Litchfield, Morris, and Warren are reminded that tomorrow they’ll have the opportunity to vote on the 2026-2027 Region 20 budget. For, against, or indifferent, every vote is important, so if you haven’t submitted an absentee ballot, make it a point to get to at least one of these polling places between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow:

Litchfield Fire House, Route 202, in Litchfield;
