13 September—One last thing to do on the Litchfield Tax Collector issue. So today we’ll drop down to Washington D.C., where the House Republicans are showing themselves to be as stupid about impeaching Joe Biden as the House Democrats had shown themselves to be about impeaching Donald Trump. Well, even more stupid.
There may be legitimate grounds for impeaching Biden, just as there obviously were for impeaching Trump the first time. But everybody knows the impeachments were and are really nothing more than political statements, pure political invective. The Democrat House wasted time and money knowing full well the Republican-majority Senate would never convict Trump, if only because the gutless GOP senators were scared of the big bully and his army of MIMs—mindless impressionable morons.
The Republican House is wasting time and money knowing full well the Democrat-majority Senate will never convict Biden, even if a solid case could be made against him—which is rather doubtful to begin with. Kevin McCarthy, the notoriously weak and unprincipled Republican Speaker of the House, appears to have been bullied by Trump loyalists to acquiesce to the totally worthless, purely symbolic Biden impeachment. And even poor old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is no longer opposed to it.
For all the criticism that can legitimately be heaped on former Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, she had much bigger ones than Kevin McCarthy and, for better or worse, ran a much tighter ship.
The only good to come of the futile tit-for-tat impeachments is that when the self-serving buggers we send to Washington are wasting their time on them, they aren’t creating stupid laws . . .
