23 March—Now that New York Attorney General Letitia James is ready, willing, and licking her predacious, politically motivated chops to seize Donald Trump’s non-cash assets to cover the nearly half-billion-dollar bond he has to come up with by Monday because he lost the civil fraud case in New York last month, Trump claims that he has the cash to cover it. The obnoxious politically ambitious virago has already started the ball rolling to obtain judgement liens on Trump’s properties. Surprise that she hadn’t bothered with pre-judgement liens.
You’ll recall that since the incredible verdict Trump’s lawyers have been insisting that coming up with the scratch would devastate his empire that’s already—and always been—held together by bankruptcies and other disreputable shenanigans that have marked him from his earliest days in his father’s footsteps as a con man rather than a businessman.
True to form, rather than cover his bond, Trump says he wants to spend the cash he claims to have on his presidential campaign, which at the moment is far behind Joe Biden’s in fund-raising—something like half Biden’s war chest. But didn’t Trump’s campaign cream Clinton’s in 2016 after spending only half as much? If money matters at all, it’s how it’s spent that counts. And people were voting against Clinton rather than for Trump back then.
Of course, since it’s braggadocious Donald Trump who insists he has the ready cash, there’s quite a bit of room for doubt. His revenge website went public yesterday; and in six months he’ll likely be able to liquidate his position in Truth Social (or whatever it’s called) as may be necessary to repay whoever or whatever may have loaned him what he’s claiming is cash on hand—that could but he doesn’t want to cover the bond. Who knows?
And it’s not unlikely that Trump’s MAGA moron militia will beg, borrow, or steal money to buy shares to support their messiah and frame the certificates. But there won’t be certificates. We miss the good old days.
Prosecuting Trump and his sons for doing what is common—and generally victimless and harmless—practice in business and personal finance and taxes was clearly Letitia James pumping up her own lackluster political career, just like her prosecution of the National Rifle Association. There was little reason for the civil prosecution, even less reason for the humongous penalty.
Except that Donald Trump has earned it . . .
