New angle on Trump?

23 September—It’s Friday, another great day to beat on Donald Trump. Is there ever not a great day for that? It’s generally acknowledged that Trump is an incorrigible lying scumbag. (That, of course, makes him the perfect politician.) Now he appears to be showing himself to be even more of a delusional asshole than we all knew him to be. But is he? Certainly he’s an asshole. But is he really delusional?

Wednesday night he told his Fox News toady Sean Hannity, “Different people say different things, but as I understand it, if you’re the President of the United States, you can declassify just by saying it’s declassified, even by thinking about it. Because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago or wherever you’re sending it. There doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president. You make that decision.”

Yeah, right.

When Bush 43 reminded the press in 2006, “I’m the decider,” (about who got on his “team”), he was simply being a CEO, perfectly rational. He understood and presumably accepted the limits of presidential power.

But here goes scumbag Trump off on another of his flights of fancy. The man is not stupid by any means. He is a monumentally successful con man, after all. Does he really believe that just because he was President of the United States he was able to determine (and, implicitly, ignore) the law? And does he really believe that his thought waves are so potent (or toxic) that he could simply think something for it to be done?

Or is Donald Trump just shooting from the lip, as is not uncommon among people who talk a lot but don’t know what to say and don’t know or care what they’re saying? Trump certainly isn’t alone in loving to hear himself talk. Problem is, as we’ve seen with Trump and other demagogues, when the lip-shot is incoherent babbling that’s nevertheless taken seriously by minions of mindless morons, it can cause major problems.

Joe Biden has and certainly needs spinmeisters to redirect and ameliorate his frequent wildly scattered lip-shot. But none of that for Trump. And, sad to say, his artful arrogance has served him all too well with his bonehead base.

Isn’t it just possible, then, that the former scumbag-in-chief isn’t really delusional at all? Isn’t it possible—even likely—that Trump’s incoherent babbling is actually a cunningly considered and crafted rallying cry? Isn’t it possible that he’s simply and brilliantly playing to his mindless base that expects and needs him to come out with all manner of stupid, outrageous pronouncements that they can use to rationalize their own indefensible behavior?
