Mama mia!

18 March—Back in the U.S.A., The Monitor just got a release from Vote Mama endorsing Jahana Hayes for reelection. Vote Mama? Sounds like a colossal voter fraud scheme—the Mother of All Voters—but it’s only a PAC, “the first PAC focused solely on electing Democratic moms,” as the release assures us.

“Since launching in 2019,” the release boasts, “Vote Mama has helped more than 250 Democratic moms run for office.” It doesn’t say how successful the more than 250 Democratic moms were, but I shouldn’t be surprised if quite a few of them actually got elected. Thanks to Donald Trump and his sycophantic, embarrassingly gutless Republicans.

Talk about narrow focus. Electing Democratic moms? Nobody else? That means Vote Mama couldn’t even support ultra-left Democratic darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for the U.S. House of Representatives or Kyrsten Sinema for the Senate (though the mamas probably wouldn’t approve of her), not to mention childless but entirely worthy Democratic women in state and local races.

And what about Kamala Harris and other step-mamas? And unmarried mamas? But of course the latter could never run for elective office anyway. Like atheists.

Vote Mama’s founder and CEO is Liuba Grechen Shirley, a white Long Islander who had the temerity to handily defeat a person of color in the 2018 Democratic primary for the opportunity to lose to long-term Republican Congressman Peter King in New York’s strongly Republican Second District, the Island’s notorious South Shore. Liuba Grechen Shirley is a married mother, by the way.

Getting back to Jahana Hayes, then . . .
