Kamala Christ

16 October—Connecticut’s superfluous early in-person voting doesn’t start until next Monday, 21 October. So, to avoid the queues, I voted yesterday at the town clerk’s office through the tried and true expedient of an absentee ballot, as I’ve been doing for years in national elections. There’s no need for anything else. So don’t forget to vote (NO) on the question across the top of the ballot when you vote—however you vote. Incidentally, the additional paperwork required for early in-person voting is virtually the same as for absentee voting but without a reason—what a news reader on left-wing radio called an excuse.

Sharon Sherman is the Democrat from Woodbury running just for the fun of it against her neighbor, incumbent 66th District Representative Karen Reddington-Hughes. The tiny towns of Sharon and Sherman, while not in the 66th, aren’t far from Woodbury and they’re separated only by Kent. So think how cute it would be if they’d been gerrymandered for Sharon Sherman’s nominal convenience. But only if she moved to the district, of course.

The New Republic is as objectionable, outlandish, hyperbolic, and unbelievable a publication on the left as The American Conservative, among many other ridiculous rags, is on the right. So just last Saturday, TNR ran a fantasy titled “America Is So Ready for Kamala” and illustrated (enhanced?) it with a Kamala Christ icon.

That suggested the yard sign and bumper sticker pictured here. We all know that yard signs and bumper stickers are just feel-good albeit useless campaign crap. But so what.

Although the fools who actually believe Donald Trump when he claims “I always put America first every single time” tend to revere him and, as Nancy Pelosi put it, the GOP has become “a cult to a thug,” we couldn’t find any reverential Donald Christ icons online. But we did see a small Trump-Vance yard sign alongside and dwarfed by the big ones for other GOP candidates on West Street just yesterday.

When Trump loses again in the upcoming election, we can only hope that the Republican Party seals his pernicious character and influence in lead and concrete and returns to its former good-guy ways dating back to Abraham Lincoln . . .
