Dumb Democrat diversity

8 April—O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!/They’ve realized their dreams./ A woman who’s black and liberal/Is now on the Supremes.

—Lewis Carroll, who evidently didn’t know about Diana Ross and the other Supremes

Ketanji Brown Jackson is black and female—that is all/Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

—John Keats, who had the hots for Wedgwood Jasperware and died, at 25, when John Marshall was Chief Justice of the United States

Congratulations to Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on being confirmed by the U.S. Senate yesterday. Not that there was any doubt. As Richie Blumenthal reminded us, “she has top-notch qualifications.” He probably got the color and gender bit in there somewhere, but at least he mentioned her real qualifications.

And he’s probably one of the few politicians and commentators who bothered to mention the new justice’s impressive qualifications. Because, beginning with Joe Biden’s campaign pledge, the only things that mattered—and matter—evidently are Ketanji Jackson’s color and gender, color being the more important. That’s what Democrats and diversity are all about, after all. Did I leave out woke?

That’s as shameful as the way Republican senators grilled Judge Brown at the dog-and-pony hearing. Just to hear themselves vituperate and gain brownie points with their benighted constituents. Something Richie Blumenthal does excessively.

That’s precisely what the Democrat senators had done with Donald Trump’s three nominees. Remember the show Corey Booker and Kamala Harris put on, trying to embarrass Brett Kavanaugh? It was obvious Corey and Kamala were playing to their own benighted constituents, campaigning for higher office.

I don’t recall that Richie Blumenthal—or any Democrats—opined that any of Trump’s nominees had top-notch qualifications, even though they certainly did. And, come to think of it, only a few brave Republicans have had the scrotal content to say anything good about Ketanji Jackson, let alone support her SCOTUS nomination. It’s embarrassing.

So I have no doubt that Justice Jackson will acquit herself admirably. Even though she is . . .
