23 June—A rather disturbed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the 86-year-old current supreme leader of Iran (equivalent to Donald Trump in the United States), delivered this speech to the Majles (Iran’s one-house legislature) yesterday. Read it from right to left:
For those readers not fluent in Farsi, here’s a rough English translation. Read it from left to right:
Yesterday, June 22, 2025, a date which will live in infamy, the Islamic Republic of Iran was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the United States of America. The Islamic Republic of Iran was more or less at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of our good friends in Russia, Turkey, and North Korea, could have been in conversation with its government and its emperor who calls himself a president, looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Middle East.
Indeed, not long after American submarines and bombers had commenced attacking Isfahan, Fordo, and Natanz, the American emperor and his flunkies insisted that the United States was ready to discuss peace with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack. But the American emperor is sure to change his mind and his flunkies will be sure to accommodate him. It will be recorded that the distance of Iran from America makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago.
During the intervening time the United States government has deliberately sought to deceive Iran by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace. The attack yesterday on Isfahan, Fordo, and Natanz has caused severe damage to Iranian real estate and private property. I regret to tell you that very many Iranian lives have been lost, mostly to Israeli attacks—another reason the State of Israel has to be destroyed.
