To the Editor:

Many things have happened in our Town of Litchfield over the past 8-10 months, making many of us wonder what is going on with the Borough Board. Starting with the 4th of July when the board decided the ceremonial firing of the cannon could not be done (Bantam was gracious and invited this tradition to be done at the Bantam All Wars Memorial). Thank you, Bantam.
The next thing was pushing to remove the Yellow Ribbons which have adorned the Center Green honoring all our brave men and women serving all around the world keeping us safe and free. This fight is continuing, although the board feels they are done with it.
Next on the agenda is informing the Legion that they can display the American Flag next to each war monument for the Memorial Day ceremonies, as long as they are removed within seven days.
In June, our proud town will be holding the World-Renowned Litchfield Hills Road Race, a tradition with runners from many countries participating. Thousands will be in town for the race. For the first time since the first race in 1977, the Borough Board has decided the array of national flags, including our American Flag, cannot be hung across the starting line as allows, stating the flags cannot be attached to the tree on the Green.
So many are upset and in full support of our Town’s traditions. Now is the time to stand strong and make it known we want our town to be community oriented. The Green belongs to the Town.
There are always times when exceptions should be made. If you agree that the power-hungry board needs to be educated on how to properly work with the public and the residents of the borough, speak up.
