Abusing our trust

18 January—Six days ago I predicted that George Santos, whose creative résumé got him elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, “likely won’t get any committee assignments and will find himself in legislative purgatory.” Well, I may have been a little bit wrong. So far, anyway.

Because Speaker of the House by the slimmest and slimiest margin Kevin McCarthy has said that although he won’t put George on any plum committees, he will in fact give the new kid some committee assignments. When you figure that most freshmen don’t get the real plums anyway, George isn’t doing half bad.

As for legislative purgatory, I’ll wager that behind the scenes a preponderance of George’s colleagues have no problem fraternizing with him and sharing liars’ intelligences, since he’s one of them and got to be in Congress just like they did. But in public, to keep up appearances, it has to be another story. I just wonder what will happen to serious GOP-positive legislation that Santos proposes; and if he’ll be allowed to sign on as a co-sponsor to other legislation.

We’ll see.

And then there’s Joe Biden’s trail of secrets. Like his 1967 Corvette Stingray.

Old Joe, being honest as the day is long (in an Arctic winter) most assuredly didn’t have any nefarious plans for the classified documents he removed from presumably safe premises, scattered to the four winds, and completely forgot about. But the first question that occurred to me is, what the hell was Vice President Joe Biden—and more than likely President Joe Biden—doing, taking classified documents out of presumably safe premises in the first place?

Second question: Whom did Joe share the classified documents with and who else had access? Did they have security clearance? Who else, including people currently looking for more top secrets, has security clearance?

The Biden brigade insists that Joe left the classified documents wherever they’ve been discovered inadvertently. Third question, then, is that irresponsible or what? In all events, it’s most certainly not a valid excuse. (Because there is no valid excuse.) And that’s the sort of person who’s been entrusted with running our country? (Not that the alternative would have been any better.)

Fourth question: Aren’t there rules—laws?—about anyone walking out of secure premises with top-secret stuff? Aren’t (presumably authorized) people—even presidents and vice presidents—required to sign something or other when they access secret files? If not, why not?

Fifth question: If Trump and Biden have done it intentionally or otherwise, how many other presidents, vice presidents, and other government functionaries at various levels also have done it intentionally or otherwise? And how much classified information is floating around outside of secure premises? Known or unknown.

Sixth, how many other classified files lost by Joe Biden are yet to be discovered?

And, last, how many classified files were found on Hunter Biden’s laptop?
