Why has Hartford Public Schools, as the system or region is known, been running paid commercials on public (i.e., left-wing) radio and television? In fact, why would any public school system throw away taxpayer money to advertise itself? To be sure, the HPS commercials don’t even hint that its pupils are among the lowest performing in the state or that its teachers are among the lowest paid.
We don’t expect to see commercials about the lawsuit filed recently by an HPS honors graduate, now enrolled at the University of Connecticut, who was never taught to read or write. Here’s the link to the story: https://ctmirror.org/2024/09/29/cant-read-high-school-ct-hartford/. It’s well worth reading.

It’s been a terrible year for Spanish radishes.

Dockers, in addition to being a brand of shoes, clothing, and accessories owned by Levi Strauss & Co., are very good for perforating shortbread. And some people employ them for making holes in pizza crusts so they don’t bubble up when they’re baked. (The crust bubbles add character to pizzas, but de gustibus non est disputandum.)
And the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor reported not long ago that about a third of the dockers (also known as dockworkers, longshoremen, stevedores, and wharfies [a new one to us]) working down there were earning—or at least being paid—$200,000 or more a year, presumably with lots of overtime on the clock.
It stands to reason, then, that the International Longshoremen’s Association doesn’t want the ports its members work at on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, Great Lakes, major U.S. rivers, Puerto Rico, Eastern Canada, and the Bahamas to become more efficient through the use of automation and other means employed by ports all over the world not held hostage by the ILA.
Not that the shippers are any less self-interested, of course. That’s human nature and capitalism.

So New York-born former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who left Downing Street in utter disgrace, is “suggesting” that had Donald Trump still been dictating from the Oval Office, Vladimir Putrid wouldn’t have risked invading Ukraine. Keep in mind that Boris is a natural blond, while Trump is a bottle blond. And of course Trump should have resigned in utter disgrace before being impeached in utter glory . . .
