Leone, Trump, Biden

27 June—An email Tuesday evening from Region 20 chairwoman Emily Cole announced Chris Leone’s resignation as Superintendent of the district that won’t technically be born until 1 July. Yesterday and this morning I’ve received a number of (but not numerous) emails and phone calls asking what I know about it. Why should I be expected to know anything the rest of the world doesn’t know?

Anyway, the short answer is, nothing special. The long answer is, nothing special directly relevant to the resignation. So there. While Chris Leone’s resignation at this time isn’t a total surprise, it’s nevertheless regrettable. I can’t speak for Wamogo, but Chris has been far and away the very best super Litchfield schools have had since way, way back when. And there wouldn’t be a Region 20 had it not been for his Herculean efforts.

Litchfield, Warren, Morris, and Goshen will miss Chris Leone. We wish him the very best.

Moving on to Biden and Trump, then, we naturally come to tonight’s semi-reality freak show claiming to be a presidential candidates’ debate. It’s a safe bet that Trump will win. He’ll win even if he says absolutely nothing and just stands behind his lectern (or whatever’s provided by CNN) looking like a bottle-blonde orange-hued sumo wrestler in an Omar Original suit. With white shirt and red tie.

Trump will win even if he acts like the uncontrollable, incorrigible, infantile bully-brat he’s shown himself to be throughout his life, including his histrionic performances in past so-called presidential debates. Even?

There’s no even about it. Because that’s precisely what Trump’s mindlessly enthusiastic supporters eat up. Think invidious and vicarious. Trump’s horrendous horde wish they could behave like assholes and get away with it. They relish and envy the very fact that the freak show’s producers had to come up with ad hoc devices that would embarrass normal candidates (and people) in order to control their massive messiah’s performance. Like switching off microphones when a “debater” (read Trump) isn’t supposed to be speaking.

So now to Joe Biden. He’ll behave as a proper president, gentleman, and human being, as always. In the quasi-debate he’ll make his points as needed and even get a few potent digs in against his obstreperous opponent. Forensically Biden will be a sure winner tonight. But that won’t matter.

In fact, tonight’s freak show won’t matter. Except as entertainment . . .
