26 May—How can I put it nicely? I won’t even try. So the dangerously misguided, pusillanimous, unquestionably injurious Democrat majority in the Connecticut House of Representatives did the predictable yesterday and enthusiastically passed the state’s latest ill-conceived knee-jerk assault on the federal and state constitutions.
Five Democrats had the scrotal content to vote against the majority while seven Republicans didn’t. The equally misguided, pusillanimous, unquestionably injurious Democrat majority in the Connecticut Senate is sure to follow suit. With equal enthusiasm.
The Constitution State’s latest assault on the U.S. and Connecticut constitutions is, of course, Governor’s and House Bill 6667, euphemistically and misleadingly titled “An Act Addressing Gun Violence,” which is in actual fact “An Act Tightening and Augmenting Already Draconian and Unconstitutional Infringement of the People’s Right to Keep and Bear Arms.”
HB 6667 includes a few provisions not inimical to gun ownership and use, to be sure, but those are merely inconsequential sops intended primarily to get minimal grudging Republican support and otherwise mask the pernicious intent of the legislation.
The swift, easy passage of HB 6667 provides indisputable proof that public testimony at legislative hearings is a waste of time, that legislators don’t really give a damn about what the public tells them. If they even bother listening to their constituents at hearings or when they’re not pandering for votes. Suffice to say, over 90 percent of the testimony on HB 6667 was strongly opposed to it.
While further eroding enumerated constitutional rights of law-abiding people, HB 6667, like all anti-gun legislation, isn’t going to have a significant effect in curbing what the bill’s supporters like to call gun violence. It makes the gun abolitionists feel good, of course, but it’s totally ineffective and unworkable for the simple reason that people who break the law obviously don’t give a damn about the law.
