21 January—Wiley Miller’s typically mordant cartoon panel for 19 January (which I can’t reproduce without infringing Wiley’s copyright), is titled “The Final Checkout.” It pictures souls waiting to be admitted to heaven. Attention is drawn to the “Express Lane, 100 or fewer lies.” The sole soul in that lane is being admonished by the admitting angel, “Nice try, Congressman.”
The Hill broke a story yesterday titled “Santos getting icy reception from House GOP.”
Remember what I wrote about that the other day: George’s fellow congressmen—call them partners in crime—are just keeping up appearances when they diss him.
One of the unctuous liars called George a “bad guy.” Another hypocrite said he was an “imposter.” Several other House Republicans have done the expected and called on Santos to resign. Most of the flack is from New York State pols.
Representative Santos stoically insists, “It’s their prerogative . . . . I came here to serve the people, not politicians and party leaders, and I’m gonna do just that, and I’ve been doing just that throughout this entire first two weeks—whether it was voting for the Speaker or whether it’s been the last week where we’ve been working on legislation in my office.”
Isn’t that what they all say? It must be noted, too, that Speaker McCarthy likely wouldn’t be Speaker had it not been for George’s vote. McCarthy hasn’t dissed Santos. Yet. Quid pro quo? Honor among the unprincipled?
And, rather surprisingly, George also has been allowed to co-sponsor legislation including a bill to impose term limits for members of Congress and a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Term limitation won’t even make it out of committee, of course, being anathema to almost all the self-serving whores in the House. Maybe that’s why Santos was allowed on board. But the Mayorkas impeachment resolution, although a purely token mainstream GOP waste of time, is another story. Maybe George was allowed on that one because he claimed his “Jewish” grandparents survived the holocaust and Alejandro Mayorkas’s genuine Jewish mother actually fled from Romania to Cuba to escape it.
We can be pretty sure that Mayorkas was born in Cuba. And Santos may well have been born in Brazil. Or somewhere else. Or not at all.
In all events, George, being a diligent congressman, is doing really important stuff for his appreciative constituents, like getting White House tour tickets for them . . .
