Sour grapes are for losers

2 September—While a day late, Bob Stefanowski miraculously came through with his May promise to provide “tax returns, ’19, ’20 and ’21, my wife’s tax returns, ’19, ’20 and ’21, and all of our investments.” Unlike the Lamonts who file separate returns, the Stefanowskis file jointly. So now nosy, envious have-nots have something new to gossip and bitch about, but nothing really of substance. Just like with the Lamonts.

If you have nothing better to do, you can peruse the Stefanowski returns and some other info about the Stefanowskis’ impressive, well-diversified portfolio at https://www.bobforgovernor.com/365486589749821-2/. You may notice that the 2019 pages, but not the 2020 and 2021 pages, are marked COPY and that all the return pages appear to have been handled a little roughly. Could that be because of the stuff that had to be redacted in the interest of privacy and it was easier to do on paper than digitally?

So that’s the good news about Bob Stefanowski’s gubernatorial campaign. Now back to the usual bad news. Stefanowski and his running mate, Laura Devlin, are actually suing the Secretary of the State—in actual Superior Court—to remove the Independent Party’s two top-line candidates from the November ballot. There are three Independent Party co-plaintiffs who are their supporters.

You’ll recall that Bob and Laura had a problem with the Independent Party caucus vote for a cross-endorsement that went the wrong way after the chair cast a tie-breaking vote against them. So their latest strategy is simply to have the Independent candidates removed from the ballot rather than any of the other losing ploys. The original fool’s errand had been to sue the party.

It’s very very very likely that Bob and Laura were screwed out of the cross-endorsement because of other than honorable, honest, above-board politics (to put it mildly and assuming there is such a thing), but, sorry to say, it’s equally unlikely that their lawsuit will accomplish anything other than making them look like sore losers.

Every vote certainly counts and the Independent Party cross-endorsement would have helped and keeping the IP candidates off the ballot would likely help somewhat, but the Republican candidates mustn’t allow themselves to look so desperate even though they may have good cause to be desperate. Especially when Connecticut really needs a new administration . . .
